La violoniste barcelonaise Èlia Bastida présente Tribute to Stéphane Grappelli, un hommage vibrant à celui qui reste une inspiration majeure pour de nombreux violonistes.
Grande référence du violon et du jazz, le nom de Stéphane Grappelli m’accompagne depuis mes débuts dans le monde du jazz. Je le définirais comme un musicien lyrique, passionné, virtuose, technique, minutieux et romantique. Dans cet album, j’ai voulu donner mon regard particulier, chercher une façon d’aborder sa musique à partir de ma propre personnalité musicale. Nous avons ainsi parcouru les différentes facettes de Grappelli de l’important tandem qu’il a formé avec Django Reinhardt aux standards de jazz, en passant par ses incursions vers la Bossa-Nova comme sur l’album La Grande Réunion enregistré avec Baden Powell en 1986. Je souhaitais aussi présenter ma propre version du Double Concerto de Bach, rappelant son enregistrement avec Eddie South et Django Reinhardt. Enfin, j’ai voulu lui dédier deux compositions personnelles (Dance for Stéphane et Grappelia), l’occasion de faire un détour vers la musique brésilienne et le funk. Èlia Bastida   .
