Pianiste, improvisateur et musicologue, Nduduzo Makhathini est une figure majeure du jazz sud-africain contemporain. Artiste primé de renommée internationale, signé chez Blue Note, il collabore régulièrement avec des institutions et musiciens de premier plan, notamment Wynton Marsalis et le Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Son dernier opus uNomkhubulwane rend hommage à une déesse mythique de la pluie qui régit la fertilité, et explore un jazz spirituel où improvisation, cosmologies africaines et dimension rituelle du son se rencontrent dans une transe intuitive et libératrice.
