L’édification au VIIe siècle de l’Abbatiale Saints Pierre et Paul permit la naissance puis la prospérité de Wissembourg. Pour se défendre, la ville s’entoura de fortifications et de 4 châteaux. Si un seul des quatre châteaux subsiste, le château St Paul, au nord de la ville dans le vignoble, l’abbaye ainsi que les fortifications sont encore visibles autour de la ville historique.

The construction of the Abbey Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the 7th century led to the birth and prosperity of Wissembourg. To defend itself, the town built fortifications and 4 castles. Although only one of the four castles remains, Château St Paul, to the north of the town in the vineyards, the abbey and fortifications are still visible around the historic town.

Die Errichtung der Abteikirche Saints Pierre et Paul im 7. Jahrhundert führte zur Entstehung und zum Wohlstand von Wissembourg. Um sich zu verteidigen, umgab sich die Stadt mit Festungsanlagen und vier Burgen. Von den vier Burgen ist nur noch eine erhalten, die Burg St. Paul, die sich nördlich der Stadt in den Weinbergen befindet.
