Un conte moderne au cœur des non-dits
Valentina a une dizaine d’années. Elle vit dans un petit village en Roumanie, avec sa mère. Quand la maladie frappe cette dernière, elles n’ont pas le choix¿: il faut partir en France pour se soigner. Mais la langue est un mur. La maman ne parle pas un mot de français, et c’est Valentina qui devient sa voix, son interprète dans ce monde étranger. À travers les yeux de cette enfant, Caroline Guiela Nguyen raconte un voyage à la fois physique et intime à la manière d’un conte faussement naïf pour explorer des questions fondamentales. Comment grandir tout en portant un secret, et faire face à l’incompréhension ? Comment traduire les mots et les silences quand on est celle qui tient le lien ? Valentina est une fable contemporaine où la langue devient un territoire à apprivoiser, où chaque mot compte. C’est aussi une histoire de filiation et d’amour, un spectacle porté par une troupe mêlant acteurs professionnels et membres de la communauté roumaine, qui donne vie à cette histoire avec une sincérité bouleversante. A modern tale of the unspoken
Valentina is about ten years old. She lives with her mother in a small village in Romania. When her mother falls ill, they have no choice but to go to France for treatment. But language is a barrier. Her mother doesn’t speak a word of French, and Valentina becomes her voice, her interpreter in this foreign world. Through the eyes of this child, Caroline Guiela Nguyen recounts a journey that is both physical and intimate, in the manner of a falsely naive tale, exploring fundamental questions. How do you grow up carrying a secret, and cope with misunderstanding? How do you translate words? and silences? when you’re the one holding the link? Valentina is a contemporary fable in which language becomes a territory to be tamed, where every word counts. It is also a story of filiation and love, brought to life by a troupe of professional actors and members of the Romanian community, who bring the story to life with overwhelming sincerity. Between theater and emotion, Caroline Guiela Nguyen signs a vibrant and luminous work, which questions the weight of the unsaid, the courage of children and the strength of family ties in the face of exile.
