Au Panthéon du romantisme allemand, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) incarne l’élégance et l’équilibre entre tradition classique et innovation. À la fois compositeur, pianiste et chef d’orchestre, il a marqué son époque par son génie précoce et son sens aigu de la mélodie.

Son Concerto pour violon en mi mineur (1844), dédié à son ami Ferdinand David, est un joyau du répertoire concertant romantique avec cette mélodie soliste, mélancolique et passionnée, jouée sans introduction orchestrale, en rupture avec les conventions de l’époque.

La Symphonie n° 4 Italienne (1833) est à la fois une fresque sonore et un hommage vibrant à la lumière, aux danses populaires et à la vitalité du Sud. Mendelssohn ménage un beau contraste d’effets entre la nostalgie recueillie du mouvement central et le final saltarello qui entraîne l’auditeur dans une course endiablée.

In the pantheon of German Romanticism, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) embodies elegance and a balance between classical tradition and innovation. Composer, pianist and conductor, he marked his era with his precocious genius and acute sense of melody.

His Violin Concerto in E minor (1844), dedicated to his friend Ferdinand David, is a jewel in the crown of the Romantic concerto repertoire, with its melancholy, passionate solo melody played without orchestral introduction, breaking with the conventions of the time.

Symphony No. 4 Italian (1833) is both a fresco of sound and a vibrant tribute to the light, folk dances and vitality of the South. Mendelssohn creates a beautiful contrast of effects between the recollected nostalgia of the central movement and the saltarello finale, which takes the listener on a wild ride.
