La famille Friant est originaire de Dieuze et Friant ne l’oublie pas ! Déraciné très jeune de sa terre natale, l’artiste arrive à Nancy dans un contexte particulier, celui des Optants. Une grand-mère de substitution, Madame Parisot, doit lui rappeler le bonheur de cette province perdue . Les études se déroulent à l’école de dessin de Nancy, la carrière oscille entre Nancy et Paris, et arrive la Grande Guerre. Dieuze va-t-elle redevenir française ? Friant participe à la guerre non le fusil sur l’épaule mais le crayon à la main. En 1918, la province est rattachée à la France, Friant est heureux et revient enfin à Dieuze lors de fêtes magnifiques.

The Friant family is originally from Dieuze, and Friant never forgets it! Uprooted at a very young age from his native land, the artist arrived in Nancy in a special context, that of the Optants. A surrogate grandmother, Madame Parisot, reminded him of the happiness of this lost province . Her studies took place at the Nancy School of Drawing, her career oscillated between Nancy and Paris, and then came the Great War. Would Dieuze become French again? Friant took part in the war not with a rifle on his shoulder, but with a pencil in his hand. In 1918, the province was reunited with France, and Friant was happy, returning at last to Dieuze for some magnificent celebrations.

Die Familie Friant stammt aus Dieuze, und das vergisst Friant nicht! Der Künstler, der schon in jungen Jahren von seiner Heimat entwurzelt wurde, kommt in Nancy in einem besonderen Umfeld an, dem der Optanten. Eine Ersatzgroßmutter, Madame Parisot, soll ihn an das Glück dieser verlorenen Provinz erinnern. Das Studium findet an der Zeichenschule in Nancy statt, die Karriere schwankt zwischen Nancy und Paris, und dann kommt der Erste Weltkrieg. Wird Dieuze wieder französisch werden? Friant nimmt nicht mit dem Gewehr auf der Schulter, sondern mit dem Bleistift in der Hand am Krieg teil. 1918 wird die Provinz an Frankreich angegliedert, Friant ist glücklich und kehrt schließlich bei herrlichen Festen nach Dieuze zurück.
