Youssouf Abi-ayad, jeune metteur en scène et comédien strasbourgeois très prometteur au cinéma comme au théâtre s’empare de notre nouvelle Pastille créative. Dans le cadre d’un travail de recherche pour sa nouvelle création, il propose de réunir des participantes et participants amateurs de tous âges pour explorer ensemble l’univers des marathons de danse des années 1920-1930 aux États-Unis, en pleine Grande Dépression ces concours de résistance où l’on dansait jusqu’à l’épuisement pour quelques dollars et un repas chaud. À partir de toutes les sources qu’il a pu réunir sur ces pratiques stupéfiantes, il s’agit plus globalement d’interroger cette société du spectacle qui capitalise sur la misère des uns pour divertir un public qui en demande toujours plus. Au moyen d’improvisations ou encore de réécritures de textes et de mouvements, l’artiste propose de créer un marathon fictif et d’aujourd’hui, bâti en plusieurs tableaux qui seront filmés sous la forme d’un faux reportage ou d’une fausse bande-annonce, projeté lors d’une restitution en fin de saison. Aucune connaissance ni pratique théâtrale ou chorégraphique n’est requise oserez-vous relever le défi ?

How far will you go?
Youssouf Abi-ayad, a young director and actor from Strasbourg who has shown great promise in both film and theater, has taken over our new Pastille créative. As part of the research for his new creation, he proposes to bring together amateur participants of all ages to explore the world of dance marathons in the United States between 1920 and 1930, in the midst of the Great Depression? these competitions of resistance where people danced to exhaustion for a few dollars and a hot meal. Drawing on all the sources he has been able to gather on these amazing practices, the aim is to question this entertainment society, which capitalizes on the misery of some to entertain an audience that demands ever more. Through improvisations and rewritings of texts and movements, the artist proposes to create a fictional, contemporary marathon, built around several tableaux that will be filmed in the form of a fake news report or trailer, to be screened at the end of the season. No theatrical or choreographic knowledge or practice is required: dare you take up the challenge?
