Elle a trouvé sa voie au-delà du métier de batteuse de jazz . Il faut donc lire l’envers de cette carte de visite qu’elle n’a pourtant jamais reniée Anne Paceo est une musicienne dont les oreilles ont su apprivoiser la modernité, jusque dans sa dimension expérimentale. D’émule des grands drummers bebop qui fit sa réputation à prêtresse d’une musique à programme inspirée de quelque opéra-rock imaginaire, Anne Paceo vit sa nouvelle vie au centre des musiques et des sons d’aujourd’hui. À la tête de son groupe de musiciens sans oeillères, bardée de brillants claviers (Maya Cros, Gauthier Toux) et d’excellents souffleurs (Lilian Mille, Christophe Panzani), servie par des lumières travaillées au plus près, Anne fera son tour de force instrumental et vocal (Cynthia Abraham, sorte de cantatrice/incantatrice galvanisant le public) avec Atlantis , son projet inspiré par la mer et ses expériences autour de la plongée où elle découvre une perception océanique mélange de sensations, entre apesanteur, plénitude et dissolution du temps…. Touchés mais pas coulés !

Elle est la seule chanteuse de jazz dont huit disques se sont hissés en tête du classement Billboard Jazz Albums. À ce jour, ses enregistrements ont été récompensés par deux Grammy® Awards, dix Juno® Awards et neuf disques d’or, trois disques de platine et sept albums multi-platine. Les spectacteurs de Marciac savent donc très bien ce qu’ils font en acceptant de venir s’incliner devant une reine du classicisme vocal. Version jazz, ce qui change un peu la nature des choses on a beau s’attendre à ce swing élégant, charnel, distancié, Diana Krall nous surprend toujours sur un terrain que l’on croyait trop élégamment cadastré. La subtilité de son piano et la complicité rodée qu’elle entretient avec ses partenaires ouvrent quelques échappées permettant à sa voix d’être un peu plus qu’une B.O de l’état amoureux, entre Greta Garbo et Sharon Stone.. Mention spéciale pour la rythmique qui a la redoutable mission d’accompagner celle qui s’accompagne déjà parfaitement au piano il faut être un chronomètre invisible, cultiver l’élégance harmonique et le sens de l’enluminure. Surtout, ne jamais exhiber les chevaux qu’on a sous le capot !

She has found her path beyond the role of “jazz drummer.” So we must look beyond this label—one she has never disowned—to see that Anne Paceo is a musician whose ears have embraced modernity, even in its most experimental forms. A disciple of the great bebop drummers who made her reputation as the “priestess” of a “programmed” music inspired by some imaginary rock opera, Anne Paceo is living her new life at the heart of today’s music and sounds. At the helm of her group of open-minded musicians, featuring brilliant keyboardists (Maya Cros, Gauthier Toux) and excellent horn players (Lilian Mille, Christophe Panzani), and supported by meticulously crafted lighting, Anne will perform her instrumental and vocal tour de force (Cynthia Abraham, a sort of singer-enchantress who galvanizes the audience) with “Atlantis,” her project inspired by the sea and her diving experiences, where she discovers an “oceanic” perception: a blend of sensations—weightlessness, a sense of fullness, and the dissolution of time…. Touched but not sunk!

She is the only jazz singer to have had eight albums reach the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her recordings have been recognized with two Grammy® Awards, ten Juno® Awards, and nine gold records, three platinum records, and seven multi-platinum albums. Audiences in Marciac therefore know exactly what they’re getting into when they agree to come and pay homage to a queen of vocal classicism. The jazz version, however, changes things a bit: no matter how much we might expect that elegant, sensual, and detached swing, Diana Krall always surprises us in a realm we thought was too neatly mapped out. The subtlety of her piano playing and the well-honed chemistry she shares with her partners open up a few %E9chapp%allowing her voice to be a little more than just a soundtrack to the state of being in love, somewhere between Greta Garbo and Sharon Stone. Special mention goes to the rhythm section, which has the daunting task of accompanying someone who already accompanies herself perfectly on the piano: they must be an invisible metronome, cultivating harmonic elegance and a sense of artistry. Above all, they must never show off the power they have under the hood!
