L’union fait la force
Posté sur la place du marché avec son orgue de barbarie, l’orgueilleux Brundibár fanfaronne, imposant sa loi aux passants comme aux enfants. Quand Aninka et Pepícek viennent chanter pour gagner de quoi acheter le lait dont leur mère malade a besoin, il les chasse violemment. Aidés par un moineau, un chat, un chien et bientôt toute une bande de camarades, ils tiendront tête à ce petit tyran. Sous les apparences d’un conte pour enfants, Brundibár charrie une histoire infiniment plus sombre.

Composé par Hans Krása, l’ouvrage fut créé clandestinement à Prague en 1942, avant de devenir au camp de concentration de Terezín l’un des signes d’une vie artistique maintenue contre tout. Avec de jeunes interprètes de six à seize ans, Suzie Baret-Fabry et Pénélope Driant en font aujourd’hui un spectacle où l’énergie du jeu et du chant collectif devient une réponse à la violence et à l’oppression.Enfants

Stationed in the market square with his barrel organ, the arrogant Brundibér struts about, imposing his will on passersby and children alike. When Aninka and Pep%EDcek come to sing to earn enough money to buy the milk their sick mother needs, he violently chases them away. With the help of a sparrow, a cat, a dog, and soon a whole gang of friends, they’ll stand up to this little tyrant. Beneath the guise of a children’s tale, *Brundiběr* tells a far darker story.

Composed by Hans Kräsa, the work was created clandestinely in Prague in 1942, before becoming, at the Terezín concentration camp, one of the symbols of an artistic life sustained against all odds. Featuring young performers aged six to sixteen, Suzie Baret-Fabry and Pénélope Driant have now turned it into a performance in which the energy of acting and collective singing becomes a response to violence and oppression.
